A major percentage of the children today are suffering from various ailments which can be harmful for their growth. According to a nationwide study by the National Family Health Survey (NFHS) in the year 2005-06, approximately 42.5% of children under the age of five were found to be underweight.
By definition, undernourishment means that a person is not able to acquire enough food to meet the daily minimum dietary energy requirements while hunger is defined as being synonymous with chronic undernourishment
India has been growing steadily richers over the years, but a large chunk of its population still remains malnourished. Out of the 16 crore undernourished children in the country, half of them attend anganwadis/ balwadis wherein the meals served to them do not meet the set nutritional and hygiene requirements needed by their bodies, which leads to a stint in their growth, physically, meantally and emotionally.
In light of this situation Annamrita, in collaboration with the Government of India, has resolved to provide high quality and sanctified food straight out of ISO certified kitchens to these children. The food is prepared in centralized hi-tech kitchens using the best cooking equipment in the most effective, efficient and hygienic manner in compliance with all the set ISO regulations.
Similar to the objectives of the mid day meal project, our goal is to increase enrolment in schools, reduce malnutrition and ensure no child is deprived of an education due to poverty and hunger.By providing wholesome nutritious meals to the children, we look forward to empowering the underprivileged children of India with tools for a healthier life.
We would soon like to expand our project to cover 1.5 million meals by 2020 daily.
